Red Dirt Studio is the workshop of sculptor Margaret Boozer and the site of Red Dirt Seminar located in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. It is a working studio that doubles as a teaching resource. With both students and artists-in-residence on site, Red Dirt Seminar is a graduate school with no grades. It is a sculpture studio with a taste for ceramics. It is a collective work environment with shared resources. It is a critique group. It is a business-of-art incubator. It is an exhibition space, a project space and a site for visiting artist workshops. At its core, Red Dirt is about what can happen with the coming-together of talented, smart and curious artists, working toward greater accomplishment in their professional practice.
Red Dirt is seeking interns for carpentry, accounting, purchasing, ordering, welding, clay digging, photography, photo editing, studio cleaning, tool maintenance, equipment repair, kiln loading and firing, errand running, critiquing, art installation, grant writing, and wet clay work. The intern will be Margaret Boozer’s studio assistant, helping facilitate all aspects of studio work, as well as be available to assist other artists-in-residence in the studio periodically. Whether it is teaching, making art, marketing or networking, don’t worry if you don’t know how to do it, we’ll teach you. Red Dirt is very active in local arts development. We just helped to open the new Gateway Arts Center nearby (a 3 year project) and continue to be involved in exhibitions and programming there. Red Dirt Studio is located in a vibrant and growing area with lots of opportunities to make cool new stuff happen, and we love to create opportunities for emerging artists with drive!
