Employer Profile: The Rubin Institute


The Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO), located on the Sinai Hospital campus, is home to some of the world’s most renowned orthopedic surgeons and offers state-of-the-art treatment in a variety of orthopedic services.

The Rubin Institute includes two separate centers specializing in various orthopedic treatments: The International Center for Limb Lengthening and The Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement. The International Center for Limb Lengthening focuses on the care of pediatric and adult patients with congenital, developmental, and post-traumatic limb deformities, limb length discrepancies, skeletal abnormalities and other causes of short stature. The Center also cares for patients with bone defects, nonunions, bone infections, and clubfoot. The Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement uses groundbreaking hip and knee replacement techniques and treats bone and joint infections. The Center also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of joint pain in adults due to joint degeneration, avascular necrosis, and hip, knee, shoulder, and ankle injuries.

The RIAO Publishing Department supplies services to ten surgeons and numerous support staff. The RIAO Publishing Department is intimately involved in hosting and providing all media for two annual orthopedics meetings. The RIAO Publishing Department consists of the Graphic Designer/Multimedia Specialist/Webmaster, Medical Editor/Scientific Writer, Photographer/Database Manager, Medical Illustrator, Manager of Academic and Research Programs, and Project Assistant.

Internship Opportunity:

Under general supervision, serves as Graphic Designer/Multimedia Specialist/Webmaster Intern for the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO). Uses skills in graphic design, web design, illustration, and 2-D animation to create advertisements, logos, meeting exhibits, scientific posters, and interactive multimedia for publication, exhibit, web, and CD. Works under the direction of the Graphic/Web Designer for the RIAO and interactively with staff and physicians to develop and create high-quality educational and marketing materials. Stays current with developing technology.
